Marcus Hunley: The Art Institute of Chicago

Marcus Hunley and his wife live and work in the city of Chicago, Illinois. They are active supporters of the city’s lively arts scene, and are members of the Chicago Institute of Art.

Chicago is one of the great cities of the world. The greater Chicago area, sometimes referred to as Chicagoland, is the third largest city in the United States after New York and Chicago. It is home to nine and a half million people, and is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation.

Marcus Hunley and his wife love going to the Art Institute of Chicago. With its one million square feet, it is the second-largest art museum in the country after New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Marcus Hunley has come to appreciate the Art Institute of Chicago’s vast holdings, which include works of the European masters, impressionists and post-impressionists, and modern and American art. The museum is associated with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, one of the largest accredited, independent schools of art and design in the United States.

One of the things that Marcus Hunley and his wife most appreciate about the Art Institute of Chicago, and one of the reasons why they remain its steadfast supporters, is that the museum’s collection represents more than five thousand years of human expression from cultures around the world. All told, there are more than 260,000 works of art at the Institute. The museum is known for one of the finest collection of paintings of Western culture in the United States.

When he isn’t at the museum or at work, Marcus Hunley is studying to become a database administrator.

Marcus Hunley: Database Administrator

Marcus Hunley is a former educator who made a successful transition to Sales. He is currently working as a member of the Sears Home Appliance Sales Force in Chicago.
But Marcus Hunley is an ambitious man, and he hopes to make a second successful transition to another career. He loves technology, and wants to break into that field. He is currently studying database theory and design and hopes to become a database administrator, or DBA.

As Marcus Hunley is learning, a database administrator is responsible for the administration of all activities in an organization’s production environment as it pertains to databases on each database server. A DBA is, in short, responsible for database integrity. A DBA must develop and enforce Content Management System (CMS) database standards, guidelines and operational policies and procedures; review its physical structures; and review performance, maintenance and utilities associated with each structure, among many other responsibilities.

Other responsibilities of a DBA include monitoring and tuning memory usage for databases, and implementing, maintaining, and testing backup and recovery strategies. This last is of particular importance.

Some DBAs need special skills because of unique ways the database is being used in a given environment. Increasing feature sets in popular database products have steadily increased the number of tasks Marcus Hunley will have to master, as he pursues his goal of DBA certification.

Meanwhile, Marcus Hunley and his wife enjoy life in Chicago as avid supporters of the Arts. They are members of the Art Institute of Chicago, and regularly attend the many jazz and classical music concerts the city has to offer.
